Goal: To develop structurally sound, self-supporting unitized system with possibility for aggregation. Concrete will retain compressive strength while losing mass.
- concrete's ability to take on texture/qualities of another material through formwork or added aggregates (i.e. cloth, ferrofluid)
- thin shell concrete, ability to generate sculptural forms yet retain compressive strength
- mixes using fibers
- mixes using color, layering of color/texture within a cast
- textures through process of creating formwork, embedding trace of process in concrete form
- making formwork by spraying magnetized ferrofluid, then casting into the formwork
Research so far:
- enamel paint coloring: affects strength and cure time -- smells awful
- sand/topping mix (yellow bag) is no good
- rockite is incredibly strong and fast cure lends itself to temporal molds or certain techniques
- thin shells with two part molds
- styrofoam aggregate mix in concrete, using water to melt out foam after concrete has cured
